Congratulations to our Club Award Winners and State Nominees

Congratulations to the DJWC club award winners and state nominees!

Hopping Bunny Award

Laurie Scott and Melissa Brady both have made great contributions to the club this past year. They were central to developing a new way of looking at the fundraising challenge. They suggested, and then ran the DIY wreath-making kit fundraiser.  They did everything from purchasing the materials,  organizing the packaging, making the stunning bows, to ensuring contactless delivery of the wreaths during an event at Endicott Estate.  The delivery day was exceptionally pleasant.  The women brought decorations and mounted a holiday display. This put everyone in a great mood. As a result, the club put on a successful holiday event.

Laurie and Melissa volunteered for other club activities as well: the Suitcase Stories, Photos with Santa, the Craft Fair and Home Life.    We are proud to name Laurie Scott and Melissa Brady for the DJWC 2020 Hopping Bunny Award. Their enthusiasm and energy helped DJWC and its committees not only survive a pandemic but continue to thrive.

Martha Michaelwich Club Woman

2020 was a year like no other. The DJWC had a goal of strengthening our brand recognition and in a year where almost all interactions were online and virtual, the digital face of our club became that much more important. Mary Lou Wofford stands out among the rest in her abilities to impact how we are viewed by our community. In this unusual year, our club woman nominee used her graphic design skills to help our club stay active and relevant. In a typical year, the DJWC relies on interpersonal skills and on historical precedent, to help those in need. This year, we needed new ways to reach people. Mary Lou stepped up and offered her design skills so that DJWC’s social media--webpage, logo, stationary, and print materials would make a positive impression. We are pleased to announce Mary Lou as our 2020 Martha Michaelwich Club Woman of the year nominee.

Shelia E. Shea Presidents

The DJWC nominee for the president’s award exemplifies all the characteristics of a great leader. In her personal life she is a public interest lawyer who advocates for the disabled, a member of the Dedham Choral Society, and the mother of two teenage girls. For most that might be enough to keep them busy, but she has been a dedicated member of the DJWC since 2014 and just finished her 2nd year as president. She not only volunteered her time to serve on the executive board, first as corresponding secretary and then, as president, but she is also an active member of the club serving as the co-chair of the Arts at Endicott summer concert series and as a member of the Arts, Craft Fair, and Environment (formerly Conservation) committees. We are thrilled to announce Kathryn Rucker as our 2020 Shelia E. Shea Presidents award nominee.

Marilyn Perry Leadership

A DJWC member realizes that it is not the adversities in life that are the most significant, but rather what one does when faced with them.  Jean models how best to face challenges.  As an occupational therapist, she often encounters situations where others need help overcoming life-changing obstacles. As the mother of a college sophomore, she is preparing the next generation. As a college professor, she educates upcoming therapists.  As a DJWC clubwoman, her leadership supports our mission to address the life-changing challenges of social injustice and conservation issues. We are proud to announce Jean Martens as our 2020 Marilyn Perry Leadership award nominee.
