Craft Fair 2020 Canceled

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Dedham Junior Women's Club is regretfully cancelling this year's annual Craft Fair that was scheduled for November 21st, 2020 at the Dedham Middle School. We are saddened to have to do this after 39 years of hosting such a wonderful event for so many talented crafters, but our main concern is for the safety and wellbeing of all involved. We look forward to seeing all of our loyal crafters and shoppers in 2021.

Arts at Endicott 2020 Summer Concert Series Cancelled

To Our Friends and Neighbors in Dedham,

After careful deliberation, the Dedham Junior Women’s Club Arts at Endicott Committee has decided to cancel the 2020 summer concert series.

Although we had been hoping the concerts might proceed on a modified schedule, it is now clear that any large summer gathering will be inconsistent with recommended state and local public health guidelines, and related precautions necessary to reduce the rate of COVID-19 transmission in Massachusetts.  The health and well-being of concert attendees, performers, and committee members are our top priority.  While we will miss organizing the concert series, we want to do our part to ensure the safety of our community in these challenging times.

Our Committee would like to acknowledge the generous sponsors who had already pledged their support for the 2020 concert series: Dedham Savings Bank, Norfolk and Dedham, Wegmans, and the Dedham Cultural Council.  And of course, many thanks to the Endicott Estate for hosting this well-loved event for more than 30 years.

DJWC is working with Dedham TV to rebroadcast past A@E concerts on Wednesday evenings this summer.  Information about those virtual concerts will be available on the DJWC website and our Arts at Endicott Facebook page.

Although we won’t be gathering on the lawn this summer, we hope to see many of you in the months to come.

Sincerely,

The DJWC Arts at Endicott Committee

The DJWC wins big—especially one member!

The Club is structured into Committees, each addressing issues of interest and concern to its members. Members may join multiple committees if they choose, but committee work can be busy and time consuming so many are content to be active in only one committee. Club officers and committee chairwomen are also on the Board adding another layer of opportunity and commitment. So, for one member to be on multiple committees and an officer would be, well, exhausting! Yet sometimes someone may stretch way beyond what the rest of us do.

It has happened this year and we are so pleased to see our colleague and friend, Jodi Rand, honored by the Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of MA as the Martha Michalewich Clubwoman of the Year! As you will read below this award honors a recipient who “routinely goes above and beyond the call of duty” as Jodi certainly does.

Jodi is a member of the DJWC Executive Board. She is the corresponding secretary which means that, among other things, she is responsible for organizing and assembling the online publication of the Club’s monthly newsletter.

She is a member of the Arts Committee and co-chair of the International Committee. Are you getting tired? Not Jodi! She was the project lead for the winner of the Overall Award for Arts, the DJWC photo project, Industrious Women. Jodi took an idea offered by the Arts Committee and transformed it into a club wide contest honoring the variety and depth of work done by women in our society—and she made it a lot of fun for all!

Jodi also co-led the International Committee’s Community Refugee Support project which achieved a Special Recognition Award! This project involved providing Mylar blankets to Catholic Charities for distribution to refugees along the border. To further extend our welcome to these new arrivals Jodi provided the Club with postcards, at a general meeting, which members then completed in both Spanish and English with words of encouragement for distribution with the blankets.

Jodi is a very valued member of our Club not only because of her creativity and her ability to pleasantly get projects over the finish line but also because of the wonderful woman she is—always bringing kindness, intelligence, and a smile along to share!
